March 4th ‘East meets West’ Fundraiser
Jingju Canada is producing the ‘East meets West’ fundraiser for current Concordia Students traveling to Beijing this summer. The event will be an evening of various performances in the traditional style of Jingju and will showcase the work of Concordia Performance students and Jingju Canada members.

Montreal Fringe 2011
We are very pleased and excited to announce that Jingju Canada will be producing a show in the Montreal Fringe Festival in June of 2011!
The show, ‘San Cha Kou’ (Which is translated as; ‘Three Crossing Roads’, ‘The Crossroads’ or ‘Divergence’), will be Jingju Canada’s first full length production and will be directed by Shijia Jiang. It is a physically intensive performance involving stylized movement, combat and comedy, culminating in the famous ‘Fight in the Dark’ scene. The show is scheduled to run 60mins.
In accordance with Jingju Canada’s mission to bring a greater understanding and appreciation of Jingju to a Canadian audience, ‘San Cha Kou’ will be performed in traditional costumes and makeup with a translated adaptation of the classic script. This script will be translated into English and adapted with the objective to further enlighten and inform a multicultural -Canadian- audience of the colourful storyline and characters found in ‘San Cha Kou’.

Jingju Canada to perform at ‘Feed the Birds’
Shijia Jiang and Nicholas Santillo will be representing Jingju Canada in Toronto on December 28th at theLower Ossington Theatre by taking part in the second ‘Feed the Birds’ Cabaret. The festivities we begin at 8pm and include puppetry, live music, a wet bar and a special appearance by the Monkey King.

December 11th & 12th Workshop
We are pleased to announce an intensive weekend workshop on December 11th and 12th!
Saturday December 11 & Sunday December 12 from 9:00-14:00
JingjuCanada is offering an intensive 10hour workshop on stylized dance and martial movements. Students will learn skills to work with traditional ‘Water Sleeves’ and Chinese sabers and be taught a choreography combining these movements and skills.
Registration fee is $50 for the weekend, space is limited so reservations will be made on a first come, first serve basis.

Montreal Performance Nov. 27th
Jingju Canada, Shijia Jiang and her Concordia theatre students are performing in Montreal’s China town on November 27th at 8pm.
The dinner performance will take place at Restaurant Ruby Rouge (1008 Rue Clark [514]390-8828).
Tickets are $28 and includes a meal.

At the Museum of Civilization
On Saturday July 10th Jingju Canada was invited to take part in a exposition of xiqu (Traditional Chinese Theatre Arts) at the Museum of Civilization in Hull, Quebec – across the river from the nation’s capital Ottawa.
